Ella Foote is an English outdoor swim explorer.

Ella Foote loves to swim in the wild. She explores lakes, rivers, ponds and the sea.

Outdoor swimming is not about pressure to swim a certain distance, time, or in a particular style. You swim for the love of it.

Wild swimming is feeling mud between your toes, enjoying the view, and experiencing the cold water.


Wild swimming is an adventure. It's finding a river or lake to swim and exploring the banks to find safe access to the water. The adventure is enjoying the feeling of mud between your toes and seeing plants and birds that live by the water. Nothing feels quite as invigorating as the sensation swimming in fresh, cold water.

But you need to learn how to swim safely in rivers, lakes, and seas. Outdoor swimming is different from swimming in a pool It’s safer to start wild swimming with an experienced guide.

Ella says: "The feeling from this supported, half-submerged star fish position in the water is a favourite of mine. It’s such a joyful and peaceful part of swimming, just trusting the water."

Inspired by the beautiful photos of her swims on Instagram, many of her close to 10'000 followers asked to go wild swimming with her guidance. To take people on safe, guided swims she started her company Dip Advisor.

Wild swimming is more than just being in the water.

It is a beautiful feeling.


Ella’s client Sian says, “I always swam in heated, transparent, and sanitized swimming pools. But that changed. Wild swimming is the most exhilarating and rejuvenating thing I have done in years."

Ella understands that wild swimming can seem scary. People can be worried about weeds, mud, swans, fish, not being able to see or touch the bottom, or even about wearing just a swimsuit in public.

Ella says: "I talk to my clients before we get in the water." She makes sure wild swimming is a safe and joyful experience for her clients.

She chooses swim locations based on her client’s experience and needs. She plans wild swims for people with disabilities too. Ella took a client swimming who is blind. They too loved the feeling of outdoor swimming.

Swimmer Roger says, "I love swimming outdoors, but I don't always know how to find swim spots. Ella discovers places I never knew were there or special spots that are unique. I often book Ella to plan a day of swimming."
