Rain at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix race caused difficulties for the drivers. The wet track was slippery. Towards the final stages of the race Lewis Hamilton was overtaking to get into pole position. On a wet patch his car slid off the track and got stuck in the gravel.

Despite going off track and a broken front wing, Lewis Hamilton refused to believe it was the end of the race for him. He eventually managed to engage reverse gear and got back on to the track.

Then Hamilton had to make a pit stop to replace the broken front wing. He had now fallen back to 9th position.

But Lewis Hamilton drove like a champion, fighting his way past 7 cars to finish the race in second place.

“Today was a rollercoaster of emotions,” Lewis Hamilton told Sky Sports. “I was probably a bit too impatient, which is rare for me. I got caught out on the wet patch, went off towards the wall, and I was there for a long time.”

Lewis Hamilton said he was grateful to get back into the race again. He said the incident reminded him of his roots. He had a “dodgy old go-kart” as a kid and he always had to start at the back.
